Our Gates

We offer a vast range of styles and finishes to suit most tastes and budgets. In Store we have many entrance, driveway, pedestrian and pairs of gates available in different timber finishes along with metal gates and gates to match your fence. Our take away gates are available in most standard heights and widths, if you require a non standard size we have a gate workshop and can produce bespoke gates to your requirements. We advise that all gates are installed by a professional.

All our gates are produced in the UK. With the exception of gates produced in our workshop they are supplied by a family run Somerset business which has been established since 1903 and holds a Royal Warrant for supplying timber products to various Royal households including Buckingham Palace. All timber used in the production of these gates is purchased on a sustainable basis and is certified on both the FSC and PEFC. Although all of our gates are pressure treated it is recommended that a further treatment is used.

Our prepared timber TGV gates are constructed with smooth prepared timber end stiles and framing and clad with smooth prepared TGV boards, glued and screwed. The timber is pressure treated but due to its Tongue and Groove construction it will have seasonal movement due to atmospheric conditions so it is necessary to paint/ treat the timber with a good quality spirit based UV resistant and micro porous wood paint/ treatment specifically for external timber such as Sikkens or similar. This should be applied as soon as possible after installation and at intervals advised by the manufacturer. Ensure that your gate is fastened with all bolts, locks provided when not in use.
Our close board gates are constructed with prepared timber end stiles and clad with sawn 100 x ex 22mm featheredge pales overlapped and fixed with 50mm galvanised nails. The timber is pressure treated and it isn't necessary to treat the timber unless you want to specifically change the colour. Due to the sawn nature of the timber a paint style treatment is not recommended and a satisfactory finish will be unlikely, we suggest a timber preserving treatment such as Barretine Wood Protective Treatment or Barretine Shed and Fence. Ensure that your gate is fastened with all locks and bolts provided when closed.

All gates should be hung with suitable fittings, we recommend a standard 6’ high x 3’ wide pedestrian gate be hung with 1- pair of 18” galvanised tee hinges, a central latch such as a suffolk latch or ring latch, a bolt on the top and bottom of the gate and a cabin hook is recommended to hold the gate when open. Please ask for our recommendations for gate fittings when purchasing your gate. We will require full payment or a 50% deposit on all bespoke items. We recommend that all gates are installed by an experienced trades person.
To store your gate, you should stack it upright and square against a wall out of direct sunlight and away from a direct heat source, do not store your gate flat. We recommend installing your gate as soon as possible after purchase.

We can not be held responsible for any gate that has been fixed or used against our recommendations.
